In March of this year, Discovery Education and the New Hampshire Department of Education (NHED) approved a $1 million contract. This partnership seeks to provide an increased focus on civic education for students.
“Civics education is essential for all New Hampshire students to ensure that this future generation of adults can, with respect for others, make their voices heard and understand alternative perspectives,” says New Hampshire Education Commissioner Frank Edleblut, who is keenly aware of the importance of civics education.
This is not the first time Discovery Education and NHED have interacted. In 2021, Discovery Education provided access to educational content for all New Hampshire educators. This allowed New Hampshire schools to have access to high-quality educational materials that both teachers and students could use. The new civic education initiative builds on the existing partnership by creating a dedicated civic education channel on the Discovery Education platform that will be available to educators this school year. Teachers will also have access to training for this new initiative.
Discovery Education will support the movement toward improving engagement in civic education by providing the resources needed to achieve this goal, including digital textbooks, customized resources, and more.
With a focused effort to specifically address the civic education needs of New Hampshire, Discovery Education provides students with the opportunity to learn about the politics, legislation, and government decisions in their area. Understanding civics and individual rights, as well as how to actively participate in a democracy, is just as important as learning any other subject.
