BURLINGTON, North Carolina – Leading School Science Provider Carolina Biological Supply Company announced that its certified version of open science for grades 6 through 8 received all-green ratings from EdReports, a nonprofit organization. The organization provides free online reports and reviews that help K-12 educators evaluate math, language arts, and science educational materials because high-quality content matters for teachers, children, and their collective future. Materials are rigorously evaluated by teams of educators to determine their alignment with standards and usability. EdReports content reviewers are made up of leading classroom educators, district coaches, and state content leaders who deeply understand college and career readiness standards and the importance of high-quality educational materials. In simple terms, EdReports' all-green rating means that the certified version of Carolina de open science meets expectations for all three review categories: Designed for Next Generation Science Standards* (NGSS); coherence and scope; and usability. Additionally, she demonstrates that the improvements Carolina made to her version of the program also meet alignment and usability expectations.
“As a nonprofit science developer, OpenSciEd intentionally created open source science curriculum so that teachers could edit, adapt, and localize content for their students,” said Jim Ryan, CEO of OpenSciEd. “When doing the open science To make the grades 6-8 curriculum more user-friendly last year, Carolina's certified version paved the way for teachers to make these changes while maintaining the high quality of the instructional materials. Working with Carolina as a certified partner resulted in another excellent version of our curriculum.”
In 2021, Carolina became a certified partner of the non-profit scientific developer OpenSciEd to create a unique version of open science science units for grades 6 to 8. Carolina, through her own expert scientists and science educators, took a first step toward improving OpenSciEd units to further support teachers and engage students. Carolina's certified version offers redesigned print materials, simplified equipment, and an enhanced digital experience, plus certified professional learning to help teachers make the shift to three-dimensional, student-centered, phenomenon-driven learning.
