Charlotte, North Carolina -Alaska Matanuska-Susitna County School District (MSBSD) announced a new partnership with the global leader in educational technology Discovery education that will improve science education throughout the school system. Through this new collaboration, MSBSD teachers and students at 15 district schools serving grades 6-12 will receive access to a suite of new, cutting-edge digital resources that will unleash the power of student curiosity in the classroom and will deepen participation. in learning.
The Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District is located approximately 35 miles north of Anchorage in one of Alaska's fastest growing communities, Matanuska-Susitna Borough. As part of MSBSD's effort to deliver a dynamic curriculum that uses innovative tools to improve instruction and drive student success, achievement, and achievement, the district recently sought to update the district's science curriculum for students in grades 6-12. Specifically, the MSBSD team sought an innovative, hands-on, standards-based curriculum that fosters rigorous and engaging learning experiences for all students. After careful review of available resources, MSBSD selected the following two Discovery Education services:

- Discovery Education Science Techbooks. The Discovery Education Science Techbook series is a comprehensive, research-backed science solution for grades K-12. Used in classrooms across the United States, Science Techbooks drive engagement with unique phenomena and interactive content. The Science Techbooks that MSBSD teachers and students will use are aligned to state standards and feature virtual and hands-on investigations, STEM activities, and instructional supports that enhance the delivery of impactful blended instruction. Science Techbooks also include standards connections and differentiation activities that inform instructional planning and guide three-dimensional learning. Coordinated teacher guides are available with Science Techbooks that provide summaries of units, concepts, and lessons, and prepackaged kits that make it easy to implement activities in the classroom.
Recently, Discovery Education's Science Techbook was certified such as meeting the rigorous, evidence-based ESSA Level III standards as set forth in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Multiple studies show that regular use of the Discovery Education Science Techbook in the classroom has many positive academic outcomes for educators and students in a variety of districts and populations across the United States. Discovery Education Experience books and Science Techbooks will be used in conjunction with Mysterious Science by Discovery Educationwhich is already in use at all 19 elementary schools in the district. Mystery Science, a unique, award-winning, standards-aligned science curriculum for grades K-5, offers engaging, open-ended lessons with hands-on, step-by-step activities that explore scientific phenomena using common classroom items.
