Key is an award-winning educator and support specialist for the Putnam County School System in Cookeville, Tennessee. He focuses on helping teachers incorporate technology into their classrooms and has given more than 400 professional development presentations across the country.
He finds that educators are increasingly using ai (artificial intelligence ) tools for teaching and recommends some to consider. Exclude the popular ChatGPT from the conversation because we have a feeling you may have already heard of it.
Bard
Google’s answer to ChatGPT has not yet gained the same acceptance as the GPT-powered chatbot, but Bard has similar functionality and has generated interest from many teachers Key knows. He can do a lot of what ChatGPT can do, and that includes generating lesson plans and quizzes, and doing a decent, if far from perfect, job of writing down whatever you ask him to do. My opinion on using this tool is that Bard may be a little better than the free version of ChatGPT, but I can’t match

“MagicSchool ai is really a great resource to help teachers prepare to teach,” says Key. The ai -powered tool is designed to save teachers time and help prevent burnout by helping them differentiate, write assessments, write IEPS, communicate, and more.
“If I need a lesson plan written, they will write it out for me in detail,” Key says.
Cartoon
This tool from Meta ai Research allows people to create a drawing, upload an image of that drawing, and then make that image come to life in animation. Key says that this is one of his favorite new tools and that it has great potential in the classroom, since no child would want to see the cartoon of him.

“Canva now has ai built in,” says Key. “I can go to Canva and tell it to prepare a presentation for me on digital citizenship, and it will create a slideshow for me.” The Canva ai tool won’t do all the work. “I’ll have to edit it and fix some things,” says Key; However, it can provide a solid foundation on which to build many presentations. He also has a tool called Magic Write, which will write first drafts of emails, captions, or other posts for teachers.

Another good platform for creating first drafts of presentations is Curipod, says Key. “It’s like a Nearpod or a Pear Deck, and it has a feature that allows you to give it your theme and it will develop that presentation,” Key says. The tool is geared toward education and allows you to choose grade levels for your presentation. However, you are limited to five submissions per initial account at a time.
SlidesGPT.com
A third tool Key recommends for creating presentations is SlidesGPT. Although he noted that it is not as fast as some of the other options, it is very comprehensive in its slideshow creation skills. In our recent review, we found it to be impressive overall, except that the platform suffered from some of the inaccuracies and errors we’ve come to expect from ai -generated content at this stage.

This is an ai test and quiz maker that can integrate with some learning management systems, allowing teachers to create quizzes on command. “You can say, ‘I want a five-question quiz on harmful tobacco use,’ and it will create a five-question quiz that you can import directly into Google Classroom.”

Key recommends this ai transcription service and virtual meeting assistant for the administrative side of teaching. You can record and transcribe virtual meetings whether you attend or not. Have used the tool extensively

This is a visual whiteboard that runs on ViewSonic and that Key uses regularly. “A teacher can draw a picture on their whiteboard and then give you pictures to choose from,” he says. The ESL teachers Key works with have been particularly attracted to this program. “It’s been really cool because they’ve been working with our students on picture and word recognition,” she says. “So they could draw a picture there and have the kids try to guess what it is. “We had a lot of fun with that.”

Runway is an image and movie generator that can be quickly used to create attractive videos with stunning green screen and other special effects. It is designed for teachers looking to create more engaging content for their students that Key’ and his colleagues use frequently.
