The new EcoFlow Power Hat should be the The silliest headdress Have I ever heard of it and I think I love it? It's a wide-brimmed, floppy sun hat filled with solar cells that you can charge your phone with. EcoFlow says it can charge a 4000mAh smartphone to full capacity “in as little as 3 or 4 hours.” Sounds ideal for leisurely browsing feeds at a campsite or surviving a barren, sun-drenched desert à la Mad Max.
According to EcoFlow’s specs, the $129 Power Hat’s solar cells are made of a thin, flexible material called passivated emitter rear contact (PERC) monocrystalline silicon. It delivers a charge of about 12 watts via USB-A and USB-C connectors on the underside of the visor. The whole thing weighs 370 grams.
Oh, and the Power Hat is IP65-rated, meaning it’s dust-resistant and can withstand water jets from any direction (though I doubt that’s true if you’re aiming a Super Soaker at the USB ports). Here’s a promotional video, complete with an inoffensive soundtrack that sounds vaguely like Kings of Leon, which is perfect for wearing a floppy hat, if my experience at past music festivals is any indication:
The hat comes in two sizes. The smallest can be adjusted between 56 and 58 cm (22 and 22.8 inches), while the largest is 59 to 61 cm (23.2 to 24 inches). The Power Hat will be available for pre-order until August 31, and EcoFlow says it expects to start shipping it in mid-September.
