Spoilers of “The Robot Revolution”.
The beginning of any season of Doctor Who It is important, doubly when there is a new co -star to present. “The Robot Revolution” has to make us fall in love with Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu), catching the new fans and maintaining the existing hooked. Especially because it is the second series of two that Disney paid, which means that it has to do well enough to keep the money flowing.
We open “17 years” with Belinda Chandra looking at the stars next to her boyfriend, Alan Budd (Jonny Green). She is an uncomfortable teenage date, with Alan clearly trying to win her boyfriend's heart by buying one of those stars adoption certificates. In 2025, Belinda is now a nurse in a busy London Hospital where, deep down, the doctor is looking for her.
Belinda goes home to bed, and we see that she has the certificate of property of Star framed on her wall. But he woke her rudely for a retro-fouturist robot squad in a Tintina rocket that have come to kidnap both and The certificate. The doctor arrives at his house just in time to see the rocket take off and indicate the initial credits.
The certificate was not a present gag, and in reality it is the queen of the planet Belindachandra, populated by Belindachandrians (I call humans from now on). The doctor pursues the late, but both the rocket and the latest are trapped in a vaguely defined time fissure. When Belinda arrives, she is received by the human Sasha55, who tells her that the robots are in charge, having overthrown and subjugated people in a bloody uprising a previous decade.
“Oh, this is a bit like Ascending Jupiter“I wrote in my notes.
Belinda is taken to a throne room where she is told to merge with the ruler supercomputer of the planet, the generator of ai. The ai generator, all forms of the skull and tesla coils, intend bond with Belinda. He is shown an animated demonstration of his destiny, since he is wrapped in parts of the machine and becomes an inacteza cyborg.
“Oh, that's like the fear bite Superman III“I wrote in my notes.
Who has been stalking at the bottom of the scene all the time? The doctor, who has adopted the title of planetary historian. (Thanks to the fissure of time, he arrived here six months before the rocket, the robots seized the late Rebellón, cannot, for a reason, for a novelty, and gives a message to his coded.
The surviving rebels, along with a small loot of the assigned red -noise to clean the path of Queen Belinda …
“Oh, like the floor robot of the floor of the floor of Wall-e,“I wrote in my notes.
… Escape to a teleporter, after which the doctor disables the Roomba to make sure that the robots cannot track them, then kisses the 'bot through apologies. Then comes the time for the episode to stop while we see the doctor and Belinda interact correctly for the first time. The doctor was informed about Belinda's difficult situation for someone from her future, and she can't say more so as not to confuse the deadlines.
The fracture of time that ships have caused many time flexion problems, such as the fact that robots have their own copy of the Belinda star certificate. But it is not a copy, it is the same object from another point in time, and nobody knows how or why they have it. Belinda, like Ruby Sunday before her, is sufficiently aware of the trope to know that two of the same objects of different points in time cannot occupy the same space, so that it does not cause an explosion.
“Oh, as in TIMECOP!“I wrote in my notes.
There are injuries at the base, and Belinda instantly puts itself in the nurse mode, grabbing IV and treating patients. He rushes to take care and has no patience for nonsense, he quickly defends himself from any indication of condescension when the doctor suggests something “Time“It is happening. He refuses to allow anyone to fight with his battles for her and is determined to grab the narration and shape her way, regardless of the cost. Then, she escapes, reactive the sheary and offers robots in exchange for saving the life of the rebels.
Belinda and the doctor are led to the generator of ai that turns out to be … the generator of al. When Belinda was kidnapped by the robots, she mentioned that her former Alan had bought the certificate, so they also kidnapped it. But the fracture of time meant that Alan arrived a decade before, merged with the machine (becoming a creepy cyborg) and began the lifting of the robot.
Even so, Belinda is happy to sacrifice him until he sees Alan holding his copy of the star certificate. She opts for point of view The two pieces of paper together, causing a great explosion of Wimey from which only the doctor can take it out. Belinda is safe, but the doctor mentions that she is now intertwined with Belinda's time current. Alan, meanwhile, has been retreated in a sperm on the floor that the Roomba bot moves rapidly.
He met with the Tardis, the doctor Escane Belinda and reveals that he already met his descendant: Mundy Flynn (also stranded sethu) of the “boom” last season. Belinda can be curious about how someone so far from her can be identical, but she is not hugging the mystery. She is angry with the doctor for scanning her without consent and that he is treating her as a puzzle to resolve.
Having seen Sasha5 die, he knows that walking with the doctor is dangerous and wants to return to May 24, 2025. But the late will not land on the current land, and even the Bell A warning begins to sound. They open the doors of the Tardis to see the empty space before the doctor decides to take it back home “The Long Way”.
Once the ship disappears, a series of objects begin to float in front of the camera: a broken Black taxiThe twisted remains of the Eiffel Tower, the Belinda stars adoption certificate and a calendar every day, but the 25 left. UH-OH.
It is a lot to pass in such a short episode.

As a large amount of the Disney era that, “The Robot Revolution” feels crowded to the point of exploding. On the one hand, nothing more that looks good is welcome. On the other hand, it seems that the program is burning through the value of a movie of a movie in the fast advance. It is difficult to have a tangible sensation of the bets given how hastened everything is, and there is a lot of reverse, instead of showing. They tell us that the planet is under the brutal thumb of an evil supreme man, but develops when the small red ships shoot the buildings in the digital matte paintings. They tell us that Alan is disgusting, but we never have any idea of that until after He is revealed as the villain. We are told that the doctor is operating with instructions from a figure of his own future, but it would be good if any of this were represented.
Davies was fundamental in reviving Doctor Who and building the cultural giant became his leadership. His role in the history of the program is safe, but even so, his Disney age series seems to be excited about the work of his own successor, Steven Moffat. “The Robot Revolution” presents a MacGuffin that is inside a mundane cheap, a divided narrative and pranks that double time. It is not that Moffat possesses these ideas, but you can almost feel Davies trying to bend his less formal style and more based on the characters in something else. A cynical could suggest that Davies is reacting to the mild not having a single episode accredited in <a target="_blank" href="https://x.com/SWmoff/status/1722353106300608560″>Magazine Doctor Who The most recent survey of the best in the series, while Moffat has five.
In fact, I would not be surprised if the slightly frantic and gappy nature of this script is a deliberate ploy to sit the frame for the rest of the season. But, even so, you can feel a degree of effort for a story narration model that does not work at all.
If the script is the weakest part of the episode, then the production design has to take the crown for stronger. Retro-phuturistic robots remind a Ford Thunderbird or Chevy Bel Air, while cleaning robot is clearly designed in a VW beetle. It is a rather humanistic design that would like today's robovac manufacturers to emulate.
Behind the scenes

Doctor Who It is a regular source of gossip, especially given the permanently faint nature of the role of the star. It is easy to say that the advantage is about to quit smoking and that that sounds true, since they leave after three or four years in the paper anyway. There are several recent reports that suggest that Ncuti Gatwa has already renounced the program, or is about to do so. Many of them also suggest that the BBC and Disney are denying the new episodes of Greenlight until they see how successful this season. In addition, the BBC says that fund cuts and inflation have seen their budget fall into £ 1 billion (about $ 1.3 billion) in real terms since 2010. It does not help, when asked directly about the future of the series in an interview with (the BBC Youth Oriented Program) JournalismRussell T. Davies chose to make mistakes in a way that suggests that the program is about to go back on the ice.
I mention this due to the sequence where Belinda defeats Alan with the certificate, and the doctor takes it out. He says she needed a time man to absorb the enormous amount of energy expelled when she touched the paper. Then, the doctor clung to his back as if he had a lot of pain, but shrugged and was fine for the rest of the episode. However, fans with long memories know that absorbing a lot of energy from the moment Vortex is what killed Christopher Eccleston's doctor in 2005. Well, that and Eccleston's decision to leave.
Mrs. Corner Flood

It seems that Mrs. Flood enjoys moving next to anyone who is finishing this year. While he was kidnapped, he calls his neighbor to call the police and tell his parents to love them. As the rocket rises, she tells the audience that we have not seen her, and returns to the interior to avoid finding the doctor, who runs in search of persecution.
