Alderon Games, the creator of Dinosaur MMO Path of Titanssays it is switching its 13th and 14th gen Intel-based servers to AMD and is urging others hosting the game’s servers to do the same. The developer has been experiencing “significant” instability issues that none of the fixes so far have reversed. wrote Alderon founder Matthew Cassells in a blog post last week.
Cassells wrote that Alderon has recorded “thousands of crashes” on gamers' CPUs using its crash reporting tools, and says processors can also damage SSDs and memory. He added that in his team's experience, 100 percent of affected CPUs “degrade over time and eventually fail.” By contrast, Unreal Engine decompression tool maker RAD Game Tools, which Cassells cites in the blog, say what “Only a small fraction” of processors are affected.
Earlier this week, a war frame developer wrote on the game forums that “almost all” of the crashes he recorded were due to driver failures in 13th and 14th generation Intel processors. He noted that the crashes observed on one staff member's gaming rig stopped after he installed a new BIOS Updatealthough Intel said in June that the issue it is addressing is not the root cause of the instability.
