Canon has announced an updated version of its They r50 With improved video capabilities, a smaller body and a cheaper price, thanks in part to lose an electronic viewfinder. The original, which was launched in 2023, was an entry level mirror with 4K video capabilities that reached 30 fps. The new EOS R50 V increases to 4K to 60 fps and borrows some characteristics of the Powershot V1 canon to aim and shoot focused on the video announced in February.
Canon Eos R50 V will be available at some point in April to $ 649.99 (the original debuted at $ 680) only for the camera body. It will also be sold in a $ 849.99 package that includes the new RF-S14-30 mm F4-6.3 canon lens with optical image stabilization and zoom capabilities fed by a ring instead of a button or a lever. Canon says that the use of a ring makes it easier to gently control the zoom of the lens, either using the camera in the portrait or landscape modes or while firing selfie videos.
The camera presents the same APS-C cmos sensor of 24.2 megapixels as the original EOS R50 and uses the AF Dual Pixel AF II of Canon system with approach respiration compensation that can also be found in the EOS R6 Mark II and the Powershot V1. The new video recording modes include options for slow or fast blinds depending on the type of action that is captured. There is also a video mode with electronic stabilization to soften the captured images while the camera moves, but there is still no image stabilization in the body.
Where EOS R50 V differs from its predecessor is a complete lack of a built -in flash and not an electronic viewfinder. Frame shots are made on an external screen or using the three -inch articulated touch screen on the back of the camera. The EOS R50 V is also much easier to use in vertical or landscape modes thanks to a redesigned grip, an additional tripod screw support on the side of the camera and a second video recording button in the front.
Four different live broadcast modes are admitted, accessible through a dedicated button, including HDMI and support for Mobile Connect and Canon Switcher applications. Although EOS R50 V may seem like an affordable film solution for filmmakers, their somewhat limited capabilities make it more suitable for video content creators who are looking for an update to the Powershot V1 that will allow them to exchange glasses.
Together with the news EOS R50 V today, Canon has also announced the global availability for the Powershot V1. The aiming and firing was initially announced in February 2025 with a launch at the end of April for a limited number of countries, including Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Canon says that the same shipping timeline will now include the US, with the camera with a price of $ 899.99.
