Well, this is certainly an interesting way to introduce a new pair of wireless headphones. bose announced today which has partnered with fashion and lifestyle brand Kith to launch its newest product: the Ultra open headphones. The news continues A leak during CES that highlighted the rather unique design, a set of headphones that clip into your ears and leave the ear canal open to let in outside noise. Details are scarce in terms of key specifications, but here's what the company revealed in the announcement.
Bose describes the Ultra Open Earbuds as “an innovative bracelet-shaped design with smooth, polished edges and a stunning finish.” Unlike the previous “open” model, these headphones sit on the side of your ears rather than securing with an over-ear hook. Bose says this makes the headphones more of a fashion accessory than a “portable audio device,” which explains the collaboration. The company also says that you can wear them with a hat, glasses or jewelry without problems, since they sit lower than your ear. It also promotes greater comfort and “all-day wear” as you don't have to choose between tuning in to your surroundings or listening to audio content.
Detailed specifications are scarce for now, but Kith posted a few items on their website. The fashion company further describes the design as having “a light-as-air grip” and “a flexible joint” for easy on and off. You can expect up to seven and a half hours of playback with Bose Immersive Audio for spatial sound and “an additional set of next-generation technologies.” The iconic Bose branding has been replaced with a Kith logo with the same lettering style on both the earbuds and the charging case. Bose says this is its first partnership with a fashion brand, and it's noteworthy that the company is allowing a collaboration to reveal an entirely new product rather than a limited edition version of an existing one.
The Bose Ultra Open Earbuds will be available for $300 on January 22 at Kith.com and at select Kith stores “in extremely limited quantities.” I assume the company will introduce a proper, self-branded version soon, but there's no mention of that in today's announcement.
