The days of the “@(insert username) blocked you” page seem to be over. x owner Elon Musk announced a new change in x.com/elonmusk/status/1838285460440862861″ rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank” data-ylk=”slk:the platform’s blocking feature;cpos:1;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas” class=”link “> Allowing blocked users to see posts from the accounts that blocked them.
Blocked accounts will still not be able to interact with those accounts, but will be able to see their posts. An x source said x-blocked-users-view-public-posts” rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank” data-ylk=”slk:The Verge;cpos:2;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas” class=”link “> The new Blocked Access feature is being rolled out because users can already view and interact with accounts that have blocked them by switching to an unblocked account.
Musk has been wanting to disable the blocking feature on x for a while now. Over a year ago, he first voiced (or technically, tweeted) that the exception was direct messages. He wrote that blocking would become “a removed 'feature'” and said it “makes no sense.”
Last May, it announced that it would be rolling out the blocked viewing change on the platform without including a concrete implementation or launch date. The post said the change would be implemented to give users with blocked accounts the ability to “identify and report any potentially bad content that they were previously unable to view.”
