We haven't had an update on Netflix Bioshock In a couple of years, the film is set to be released, leading some to wonder if it was quietly cancelled. The good news? The film is still coming. The (potential) bad news? The budget has been cut. According to a report by Variety.
This comes from producer Roy Lee, who was one of the people behind The Lego MovieHe announced the reduced budget during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con. He didn't give figures, but said the film is being “reconfigured” to be a “more personal” movie. Director Francis Lawrence remains at the helm of the film. He Bioshock The film was first announced in 2022, but Netflix has since undergone something of a regime change at the executive level. Dan Lin replaced Scott Stuber as the streaming platform's head of movies, and Lin has cut the budget for things like Zack Snyder's film. Rebel Moon.
“The new regime has cut budgets,” Lee said at Comic-Con. “That’s why we’re making a much smaller version.”
In addition to budget cuts, Lee noted that Netflix has changed its compensation strategy regarding movies. It is moving to a more traditional model that relies on bonuses tied to actual viewing figures.

I guess it ultimately depends on how much has been cut from that budget. There's a big difference between a slightly reduced budget and a massive cut that turns the entire footage into dark hallway scenes shot in a series of warehouses in Toronto or Atlanta. The release date hasn't been announced and honestly it could still be a long time away. Director Lawrence He has a lot to do at the momentincluding an adaptation of Stephen King's novel. The long walk and another Hunger Games movie.
