The updated system will still begin with letters such as for “low floor” vehicles or Q for the “high floors”. That will be followed by numbers 1 to 8 that help represent the size or classification of the vehicle. However, Audi says that it will no longer use odd numbers or even to represent the driving train technologies that it uses.
Then comes the style of the body, which includes Avant, sedan or sportback, when appropriate. Finally, Audi will add at the end a motor train code, including the TFSI combustion engine (stratified turbo fuel injection), TFSI E (plug-in hybrid) and e-tron (all electric). The system also replaces Audi's Two -digit power output representation What really did confusing things.
This new nomenclature system will debut with the new Audi A6 combustion motor version, which will be revealed on March 4. You can expect the Audi A6 models to have names such as A6 Avant TFSI or A6 sedan e-tron. (The current models will not be renamed).
E-tron vehicles were especially confused in the past. The original US line was a Q8 style SUV, but it was called the “Audi e-tron.” Subsequently, a Sportback version was made, and both were renamed Q8 e-tron (which are now being eliminated). Today, there is an Q6 t-tron that is similar in size but built on the Volkswagen shared Premium Electric (PPE) modular platform shared with the A6 e-tron and the Porsche Macan EV.
