Here's some good news for Apple Watch owners who envy the Apple Watch Ultra's display: The Apple Watch Series 10 could have the same size display as the company's 49mm outdoor watch. That's in addition to other potential improvements, like a thinner case and a new chip that could “lay the groundwork for some ai improvements in the future.” According to Mark Gurman's latest article Switched on Bloomberg Newsletter.
The display rumor seems to back up a CAD render from last month that showed a Series 10 watch with a two-inch display. Gurman says (and that render seems to prove it) that the watch won’t feature any major design changes. If that means no magnetic straps or anything like that, I’m putting that part of the rumor in the “good” column—like many, I’ve accumulated a number of watch bands over the years and would like to continue using them if I decide to upgrade.
As for new sensors, things seem more confusing, as Gurman says Apple is having difficulty with two major health sensor updates it was planning. The company has reportedly been unable to get the reliability of its rumored blood pressure monitor up to expectations, and he writes that not being able to use its banned blood oxygen sensor is hampering its efforts to add sleep apnea detection.
Apple is reportedly planning a cheaper version of the Apple Watch SE to bring it up to par on price with Samsung’s Galaxy Watch FE, which costs $199. One way to achieve that, it seems, would be with a hard plastic case. That could make the watch cheaper, sure, and perhaps lighter. I can think of at least one other Apple product that could benefit from a similar decision! (The Vision Pro. I mean the Vision Pro.)
Lastly, Gurman says the company is planning to release a Watch Ultra 3, but don't expect any major visual changes. It will, however, reportedly receive the new chip that will power the Series 10.
