Apple Pay doesn't seem to work, especially for Chase customers: Verge staff have had their cards declined when trying to pay with Chase cards using Apple Pay, while using the same physical card works fine. Various people on Threads confirmed the same problem when I asked, although people with non-Chase banks, like Citi, seem to be using Apple Pay without problems.

For what it's worth, Chase's customer service line currently has wait times of up to 15 minutes, and agents are telling people that Apple Pay is “undergoing maintenance” for “an unexpected update,” which which is a lovely euphemism. Unfortunately, no one seems to know when things will be resolved. We've reached out to Apple for comment; We'll update you if we hear anything.
