An AI-haunted house and the mysterious murder of a superhero

An agoraphobic engineer named Henry spends his days holed up in his extremely intelligent house building strange little robots, including one that looks like a wizard and gets around on a tiny bicycle. His wife, Lily, is the only person he really sees, but things have become tense between them, a situation only made worse by the fact that he's usually holed up alone in the attic working on a secret project. One day, Lily invites some former coworkers over to encourage Henry to socialize, and Henry takes the opportunity to finally show off his greatest creation: William, an advanced artificial intelligence system housed in a rudimentary robot body. Horror ensues.

Mason Cole's William (stylized W1LL1AM) takes the tired cliché of a naive creator facing an out-of-control creation and adds a creepy haunted smart house vibe to it, with a twist ending. Naturally, it has drawn comparisons to Frankenstein and yet The Shining, But I would venture to say that there is a touch of Demon's seed It's there too. This is another short read, less than 250 pages, and it's just what you need to get into the spooky mood of the season. The plot takes place, fittingly, on Halloween.
