Amazon may not be known for creating generative AI, but it’s eager to help others get its technology up and running. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is launch a generative AI accelerator that will help the “most promising” startups thrive. The 10-week program provides AWS credits, access to mentors and other experts, and networking events. In the end, the startups present their work to potential investors and clients.
While the accelerator is open to all generative AI startups, AWS recommends that candidates have at least a commodity product ready with some customer interest. Entries are available worldwide through April 17, and Amazon makes it clear that there are no limits to how AI is used: it can be used for everything from the legal world to new drug discovery.
The company hopes the accelerator will serve as a “catalyst” advancing innovation in generative AI. At the same time, he’s not subtle about the potential for increased business on AWS. Runway used the cloud computing platform for an artist-oriented AI that contributed effects to Everything everywhere at once. Businesses that prosper as a result of the program may become much more dependent on AWS as demand grows.
Amazon only has a limited amount of in-house generative AI at this time. Its Create with Alexa tool lets you generate kids’ stories on an Echo Show smart display, for example. However, it also faces less pressure to create its own products than tech rivals like Google and Microsoft. You can still profit as long as there is a lot of demand for AWS tools, and you could see inspirations for your own AI work.
