Electric vehicle maker Lucid has pulled the plug on the long-awaited Gravity, a three-row all-electric SUV with a range that could hypothetically leave a Tesla Model X, Fisker Ocean or Rivian R1S stuck in a charging station.
The importance of Lucid Gravity, and more precisely the reception it receives, is existential for the electric vehicle manufacturer. The Lucid Air sedan, the company’s first electric vehicle, has received positive reviews. However, demand has weakened this year, forcing the automaker to cut prices and reduce its production forecasts for the year.
Gravity could help Lucid regain a foothold in the increasingly competitive electric vehicle industry. Of course, Lucid has to launch the vehicle. Apparently, the vehicle can also be charged like a Tesla: it reaches a range of up to 200 miles after about 15 minutes on a fast charger. Inside the SUV is a 34-inch curved OLED display floating above a redesigned steering wheel. Lucid amplifies the interior touches, as it did with the Air.
Of note is the seven-passenger configuration and a console that opens for additional storage. Lucid said those sliding second-row seats combine with built-in convenience tables for an “elevated rear-seat experience.”
Those rear seats, both the second and third rows, fold flat to provide more than 112 cubic feet of total usable cargo space, according to the company.
