CRISP-DM stands for Cross-sector standard process for data mininga data mining framework open to anyone who wants to use it.
Its first version was created by IBM as TOanalytics Yessolutions Younified METROmethod for data METROining (ASUM-DM). It was then developed by a group of companies and evolved into CRISP-DM, which today is one of the most well-known and adopted frameworks in data science.
The process consists of 6 phases and is flexible. It's more like a living organism where you can (and probably should) go back and forth between phases, iterating and improving the results.
The phases are:
Business understanding
Data understanding
Data preparation
Modeling
Assessment
Deployment
