Acura is unveiling a new electric vehicle concept today at Monterey Car Week that features an all-new electric vehicle platform developed by parent automaker Honda. The vehicle, dubbed the Acura Performance EV concept, is a crossover SUV with a boat-shaped front end that resembles the 2022 Precision EV concept, but with a sporty rear end.
The new Acura concept is a rendering of an upcoming electric model scheduled for production next year at Honda's new electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Ohio. At a media event today, Honda Global Executive Vice President Shinji Aoyama said: He told Motor1 that there is also a new “NSX-type” electric sports car in development for “2027 or 2028.”
As first announced last week, Acura says its new concept has “dynamic styling” and today it explains it as having a “powerful and athletic stance” with its long wheelbase and rugged wheel arches. The concept shown has 23-inch wheels with variable-spaced spokes designed to “evoke a sense of motion even when stationary.”
Looking at the side profile of the Acura EV prototype, it looks like a Mustang Mach-E with a sporty tailgate that gives it a coupe-like look (rather than the Mach-E’s fake roofline illusion trick). From the front, however, you’ll notice an aggressive hood and side vents, plus squinty headlights that give the Acura an overall angry look.
Meanwhile, Honda is working on a new series of electric vehicles called the Honda Zero, which so far includes a slanted EV concept and a larger “Space-Hub” concept.
