Wyze owners reported this morning that they couldn't access their smart home devices and that their apps were throwing up error messages. Wyze Discord users are reporting that the issues began at 4 a.m. ET, with reports of the issue appearing widely at 6 a.m. ET. according to the fall detector.
Just before 1 p.m. ET, several Wyze owners reported their devices were back online. Wyze has not confirmed a resolution, but a note posted at 10:24 a.m. ET said: “We are aware of an issue with our AWS partner that affected device connection and caused login difficulties. “We are taking steps to mitigate the issue on our end while we work with AWS to resolve it.” Another message posted at 11:57 a.m. ET said they were continuing to work on the issue.
In Wyze Forum Posts Regarding the service interruption, users say they cannot connect to their security cameras through the app. The cameras appear to go offline and users cannot control their devices through the app. Others say their apps crash or devices have disappeared from their accounts.
Wyze did not immediately respond to a request for comment or details about what caused the problem.
Wyze makes popular home security devices, but it has had privacy incidents, including a data breach in 2019 and a serious security flaw that it fixed by discontinuing a line of older devices without recalling them. Last year, some users reported being able to view camera feeds from other people's devices, which Wyze attributed to a web caching issue. In that case, users said their own devices disappeared and were replaced by someone else's, including streams showing the inside of strangers' homes.
Update December 16 at 1 pm ET: Added user and Wyze status updates.
