and they are fantastic games that allow fans to create and share their own Mario levels with ease. But it was a little disappointing that Nintendo only considered 2D Mario games. None of the 3D incarnations of the plumber have made it to a Mario Maker title to date. So thank goodness for modders.
A couple of modders called Arthurtilly and Rovertronic have released a which aims to make it very easy for players to create and share their own levels. You will need your own (legally obtained) Mario 64 game file and a separate piece of software to infuse the mod into it. It is even possible to use Mario Builder 64 on a Nintendo 64 yes .
You will have more than 100 pieces with which to build your levels. The creation tool includes some custom parts from a previous mod, so you have extras like permanent power-ups at your disposal. To share your creations and find those made by others, recommended places to look are for Mario and Rovertronic level modders .
It will be interesting to see if the ridiculous 3D start appearing, while the mod could allow speedrunners to create custom training camps where they can practice strategies. Personally, I hope that the creators create levels that are based on beat.
