Prince of Persia fans are really celebrating this year. We have already seen the launch of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crownbut Ubisoft simply in the franchise. The Rebel Prince of Persia is a team-up with Evil Empire, the developers behind the iconic roguelite Dead cells. Coming into Steam Early Access on May 14.
It's a side-scrolling roguelite, like Dead cells. As you can see in the trailer, the graphics are also reminiscent of the acclaimed and highly addictive action-platformer. You play as, wait for it, the Prince of Persia, who has been equipped with a mystical device that allows him to resurrect after death. Do your best. You die. You purchase upgrades in the hub world. This is the roguelite formula and I am absolutely here to support it.
Although it seems disturbingly Dead cells, the moveset looks like it's straight out of the Prince of Persia franchise. Players will have access to the iconic wall run and related acrobatic abilities to maneuver through the procedurally generated levels. To do this, there are a variety of colorful biomes, each inspired by Persian architecture.
There are also many weapons to choose from to suit different play styles. These include twin daggers, spears, swords, axes and more. Additionally, players can equip secondary weapons such as bows and grappling hooks, making each match a unique gaming experience. Ubisoft says the game will receive numerous updates once it receives feedback from early access buyers, promising “new levels, bosses, weapons, enemies, and upgrades.”
