Hello! I'm here from the future. And I have some news. In 12 months, all the Big tech CEOs will still be in their jobs, they will all be using foldable phones, Apple made a television, and Nvidia will be the most valuable company in the history of the universe. Wild year, huh? Or maybe not? It's hard to remember. Time travel alters memory a little.
In this episode of The VergecastThe second installment of our two-part 2025 preview, we discuss some seriously dubious stories from the end of 2025. David, our resident time traveler, brings us some big stories that may or may not have happened in the coming year. and Nilay Patel and Wall Street Journal columnist Joanna Stern I have to help figure out what's real and what's not.
Will anyone really buy Snap? Is GTAVI Will it be the most important game of all time? Will Bluesky continue to rise and leave Threads in his wake? No one knows yet, not even the time traveler, but we have some thoughts and ideas.
As was the case with last week's episode, we're keeping score. Here's how it works: Each anchor has to decide, for each news story in 2025, whether it will be real or not before the end of the year. Each correct guess earns you one point; every incorrect assumption costs you one. At the end of the year, we'll add up the scores, combine them with last week's guesses, and buy the winner the coolest device of 2025, whatever that may be. (We'll also need your help to decide, but we'll come back to that.)
Don't read the following until you've heard or seen the episode, but for the tape, here are our predictions:
