Waste management (New York Stock Exchange:WM) reported a year-over-year increase in revenue on Tuesday amid efforts to contain costs.
The waste disposal company said net income rose 3.8% to $663 million, or $1.63 per share, in the third quarter, from $639 million, or $1.54 per share, a year before. Wall Street analysts on average The company was expected to report earnings per share (EPS) of $1.61.
Revenue rose 2.4% year-over-year to $5.2 billion, compared with the consensus estimate of $5.27 billion.
Operating expenses as a percentage of revenue were 61.3% in the three-month period ended September 30, compared to 62.2% a year earlier.
“Throughout the year, our team has consistently delivered strong results driven by our focus on pricing discipline and optimizing our cost structure,” said Jim Fish, president and CEO of Waste Management (WM), it’s a statement.
