Jobless claims fell below a 20-month low
Investors saw a flurry of employment-related statistics in the days of the past week. A report on Tuesday showed US jobless claims fell below 10 million to a 20-month low, suggesting the job market may be running out of steam.
This week, ADP said the private sector added 145,000 jobs, below the 210,000 expected by experts. Data from Thursday’s weekly jobless report showed that initial claims for benefits last week came in at a higher-than-expected level.
It will be interesting to see what the weak report does with forecasts for future rate hikes, which bond markets already believe may be close to the bottom line.
