Royal Caribbean is unable to give crew members time off during the holiday season because these are very expensive cruise weeks when all sailings are typically sold out. With children out of school, many cruise ships will be sailing at maximum capacity, pushing all onboard facilities to the limit.
Crew members arguably have more work during the holidays because there are more people to serve and care for.
That doesn't mean Royal Caribbean ignores its crew. The cruise line makes a real effort to offer its crew members special occasions, parties, gifts and holiday meals.
Lyra Synchro, Royal Caribbean entertainer, decided to share what Christmas was like last year on Oasis of the Seas. Performers have more freedom than regular crew members, as when they are not rehearsing or performing, they have blocks of time to leave the ship.
Synchro and his co-stars took advantage of that to have a memorable Christmas.
