(Reuters) – Tesla Inc has cut prices for its Model S and Model X vehicles in the United States, its website showed, days after Chief Executive Elon Musk said recent price cuts for other models had fueled the demand.
Tesla’s (NASDAQ:) Model S car prices have been cut by $5,000. The base version of the Model S would now cost $89,990, up from $94,990 previously, while its performance variant would cost $109,990, up from $114,990 before.
Prices for the base and performance variants of the Model X cars have been cut by $10,000, the electric vehicle maker’s website showed. The base version would now cost $99,990, while its performance checkered version would now cost $109,990.
Musk has said repeatedly in recent months that Tesla would focus on lowering prices to boost demand and had been successful in generating orders with the global discounts introduced in January.
“People’s desire to own a Tesla is extremely high. The limiting factor is their ability to afford a Tesla,” Musk said last week at Tesla Investor Day.
