DON’T MISS: Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz Takes on Trump and Now People Call for Boycotts
While coffee beans and olives don’t sound like a good match, Starbucks is betting its new Oleato drink will be a hit with customers.
Starbucks Oleato will combine Starbucks signature coffee with Partanna extra virgin olive oil.
Naturally, the Oleato will make its debut in Starbucks stores in Italy starting Wednesday before expanding to other markets.
The drink will then have a run in Southern California in the spring before launching in Japan, the Middle East and the UK later this year.
Oleato’s new line will include a Caffe Latte with steamed oat milk, an Iced Shaken Espresso and a Golden Foam Cold Brew.
“In more than 40 years, I can’t remember a time when I’ve been more excited, more excited,” said CEO Howard Schultz. “That shows the pride, the quality, the passion, the heritage and the artistry of what Starbucks can do.”
Starbucks could use some good news
While Starbucks is celebrating its new menu item this week, last week its alleged anti-union practices took a huge legal blow.
Employees at nearly 240 Starbucks locations in the US formed unions in the past year, and while Schulz has asserted that the company is not strictly anti-union, he has been outspoken in his opposition to labor organizing, sayingin a CNN interviewon February 21 that he does not believe “the union has a place at Starbucks.”
Last week, a pair of activist employees who were fired from a Starbucks in Philadelphia received some vindication thanks to a decision handed down by the US Labor Board. The board ordered the coffee company to “cease and desist” from what it appears to be a series of union busting techniques incited against your staff. The decision also mandated that the company offer two employees reinstatement that includes back pay.
