The New York Times (New York Stock Exchange: New York) looks to start testing ad targeting with the help of generative ai this year, Axios ai-ad-tool” target=”_blank”>reported.
The approach, based on NYT internal efforts, I would recommend where an ad campaign would work best based on the message or objectives, and include more ability to target specific niches, according to the report.
The company is recruiting advertising partners for a closed beta test that it wants to start early in the second quarter and will roll out the new tool to more advertisers after the first results, Axios says.
Although the new tool is NYT technology, it would apparently work using any large language model, including enterprise and open source models.
And the ad targeting efforts preceded the company's December lawsuit against Microsoft and OpenAI, accusing them of copyright infringement for using millions of news articles to train their ai models.
