The Consumer Electronics Show is often headlined by flashy cars, new computers and televisions. However, the vast majority of attention this year is expected to focus on something people can't touch: artificial intelligence.
The annual conspiracy arrives after the technology had a strong 2023 and the euphoria is likely to lead companies to show “major advances across the ai ecosystem,” Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives wrote on Friday.
“We believe ai will take center stage at CES as the most talked-about topic, as this ai-led fourth industrial revolution is now on the doorstep of businesses and consumers around the world,” Ives wrote. “While there has been fringe technology in previous years (drones, robots washing dishes), this mainstream technology wave is unlike anything we've seen since the Internet in 1995.”
ai everywhere
Everyone and their mother will be launching ai at this year's CES, which brings together billionaires and non-billionaires before the bright lights of Las Vegas. But it will take a discerning wizard to figure out who is selling an idea and who is changing the world, and it all starts with the usual suspects.
The usual suspects will be present at the event, which brings together the glitz and glamor of Sin City. NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA), Microsoft (MSFT), Intel (INTC), Dell (DELL) and many others will showcase their latest products to industry analysts, journalists and technology enthusiasts who will watch with bated breath.
Nvidia, led by Jensen Huang, is expected to unveil several new GPUs at the event (the RTX 4080 Super, 4070 Ti Super, and 4070 Super) as it looks to maintain its leadership in the space and keep companies ahead of the curve. . as your generative ai needs continue to increase.
AMD (AMD), which recently introduced the world to its own line of ai accelerators (with much enthusiasm), is also expected to have a presence and make several announcements.
Intel will likely build on its recent ai announcements and the time spent at CES will focus on bringing the technology to PCs, Ives said.
Bank of America analyst Vivek Arya expects more attention to be paid to ai in PCs and smartphones.
“We expect ai to be a key theme at the conference, with companies highlighting plans to incorporate the technology to enhance product features and enhance consumer capabilities,” Arya wrote.
Cars, cars, cars.
In recent years, CES has become more of an auto show and companies like BMW, Mercedes, Ford (F), Honda (HMC), GM (GM) and others are expected to have a great display.
Ives said the usual announcements about infotainment upgrades, new automotive technology and new electric vehicles should make the headlines, although the increased use of ai in cars is also likely to be a theme.
Advanced driver assistance systems and autonomous driving are likely to be on full display, including the continued push for Level 3 and Level 4 autonomous driving, where cars can effortlessly do most of the work themselves human, said S&P Global senior analyst Brock Walquist. .
Walquist also said companies like Bosch are likely to showcase the combination of entertainment and navigation systems and driver-assist functions “on a software-intensive mainframe computer on a single (system-on-a-chip).”
ai is fine
Stylish new cars and tech gear may attract the attention of CES attendees, but at the end of the day, the event's theme still centers on two letters: ai.
More than half of all companies surveyed by Wedbush said they see more than 20 use cases for generative ai and more than 80% said they see 10 or more, including data analytics, marketing content creation, document editing/summarizing and other ways to improve efficiency. Ives explained.
The introduction of OpenAI's ChatGPT to the world in late 2022 has transformed the technology from a wallflower at the dance to one that attracts all the attention, especially when companies see a way to reduce costs and generate revenue. Analysts believe this trend will likely continue for some time.
“We believe companies will execute and capitalize on this trend and CES will be an important launching pad to kick off 2024 as software, chip and hardware technology players bet heavily on ai,” Ives said.
