(Reuters) -Elon Musk said on Saturday that SpaceX’s Starlink will support communications links in Gaza with “internationally recognized aid organizations.”
Musk said in a post on the social media platform
A phone and internet blackout isolated Gaza Strip residents from the world and each other on Saturday, and calls to loved ones, ambulances or colleagues elsewhere were nearly impossible as Israel expanded its air and ground attack.
International humanitarian organizations said the blackout, which began on Friday night, was worsening an already desperate situation by impeding life-saving operations and preventing them from contacting their staff on the ground.
Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Starlink satellites were reported to have been instrumental in maintaining internet connectivity in some areas despite attempts at Russian interference.
Musk has since said he refused to expand coverage of Russian-occupied Crimea, refusing to allow his satellites to be used for Ukrainian attacks on Russian forces there.
