The fast food giant has done something that has rarely happened in its McHistory.
McDonald’s fans casually add the “Mc” part of the chain’s name to various items it offers or when discussing the experience. There’s no such thing as McDelivery or McDrivethrough (or even McIndegestion after eating), but people have fun with the term since the chain’s menu has many references to itself.
Actually, while McDonald’s (dcm) – Get a free report he has invoked his iconic history/imagery on failed sandwiches like the Arch Deluxe and has used the “Mc” designation on many disasters (McLean Deluxe, McDLT, McHotDog, McCrab, McLobster, McAfrika, McSalad Shakers, McStuffins and the pitiful McSpaghetti), in He is actually quite careful when using the “Mc” designation. When you add those letters to a product line, it’s like the chain anoints those items as classics.

- The Crispy Chicken Deluxe (also offered in a spicy version: add shredded lettuce, Roma tomatoes, and mayonnaise (530 calories).
Now, without much fanfare, the company has made a major change to its staple fried chicken sandwiches, changing its name from “Crispy” to McCrispy.
McDonald’s bets heavily on its line of chicken sandwiches
McDonald’s celebrated the name change in a press release, which tried to give historical context to the name change (while ignoring all the previously mentioned McDisasters.
“McDonald’s Crispy Chicken Sandwich quickly became a fan favorite when it first hit US menus in 2021. And now, this beloved sandwich joins some of our most iconic menu items: McNuggets, McMuffin, McFlurry sandwiches and desserts, with a fresh new name: McCrispy,” the company shared in a press release. “Earning your ‘Mc’ is a true McDonald’s badge of honor.”
And while McStuffins, a short-lived version of Hot Pocket, suggests the chain hasn’t been overly protective of its iconic name, the company seems to have realized the error of its ways. Basically, McDonald’s christens the old Crispy Chicken Sandwich as its new main menu item of fried chicken sandwich.
It’s a McHonor which means this product line is about as permanent as fast food menu items can be.
McDonald’s expands McCrispy line
While McDonald’s wants to make awarding the “Mc” a big deal, nothing really has changed about its chicken sandwiches. So to celebrate the change, the fast-food giant is adding two new limited-time McCrispys to its menu on March 13.
- The Bacon Ranch McCrispy features a crispy all-white meat chicken fillet topped with applewood-smoked bacon, pickles and ranch sauce on a buttered toasted potato roll (650 calories).
- The Bacon Ranch Deluxe McCrispy features the same crispy white meat chicken fillet, applewood-smoked bacon, shredded lettuce, Roma tomatoes and ranch sauce on a buttered toasted potato roll (660 calories).
And while these two limited-time offers aren’t supposed to be available until March 13, they’ve already been spotted in select locations.
