ExxonMobil (New York Stock Exchange:XOM), Eni (New York Stock Exchange:E), Shell (New York Stock Exchange: SHEL), TotalEnergies (TTE) and other members of the North Caspian Operating Company are being sued by the Kazakhstan government for 2.3T tenge (~$5.14B) in environmental fines in the Kashagan oil field, Bloomberg reported Wednesday.
The country’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources accused the consortium running the Kashagan operation of keeping more than double the amount of sulfur allowed at the site, according to the report.
Kashagan, which is one of the largest oil fields in Kazakhstan, halved its production last year for about two months due to a gas leak; since then, the field has fully restored production.
The demand for the environmental fine comes as Kazakhstan is reportedly looking for ways to exert more control over the NCOC consortium.
Exxon Mobil (XOM) is “a strong buy as a revenue and growth consideration based on Guyana’s societal progress,” Long Player writes in an analysis recently published in Seeking Alpha.
