San Francisco – Google de Alphabet (Nasdaq , which already faces an unprecedented regulatory attack, is seeking to mold public perception and artificial intelligence policies before a global IA regulation wave.
A key priority, an executive told Reuters, is the creation of educational programs to train the workforce in ai.
“Make more people and organizations, including governments, become familiar with ai and use their tools, improve ai policies and open new opportunities; it is a virtuous circle,” said Kent Walker, president of Alphabet global affairs.
While Google competes against the best rivals of the great technologies, including Openai and Meta (Nasdaq :), backed by Microsoft, in the field of ai, he is aware of the intense regulatory scrutiny he faces in his existing business and search businesses.
In the European Union, Google has offered to sell a part of its advertising technology business to appease regulators, Reuters reported. In the United States, the Department of Justice is trying to force the disintegration of its Chrome web browser, although it could change course under the administration of President Donald Trump.
Meanwhile, governments around the world are writing new regulations on issues that ai could exacerbate, such as copyright and privacy. The EU's law, which seeks to evaluate the risk and demand revelations of the general use systems, has received the rejection of technological giants that could be found in the spotlight of multimillion -dollar fines.
The Department of Justice has also tried to limit Google's advances in artificial intelligence as a remedy in a federal case that found that its search business was an illegal monopoly.
Google executives see an opportunity to shape the narrative around a technology that has fueled the emerging fears of a massive loss of jobs.
The Executive Director, SUCTAL PICHAI, announced in September an investment fund of 120 million dollars to create educational intelligence programs. The deputies, including Walker and Ruth Porrat, president and investment director, travel more and more throughout the world to discuss policy recommendations with governments.
“There are many advantages in terms of helping people who can be displaced by this. We want to focus on that, ”Walker said.
Efforts include expanding Grow With Google, a website that teaches workers such as data analysis or IT support that are intended to expand their professional perspectives in technical fields. In December, the company said that 1 million people had obtained a certificate for the program. He is adding specialized courses related to ai, as one aimed at teachers, said program director Lisa Gevelber.
The courses alone are not enough to prepare workers, Walker said. “What really matters is if you have any type of objective for which people are working, as a credential that people can use to request a job.”
Google wants to increase experimentation in public-private associations, he said. The main example until now, he said, is the “Skilled Trades and Readiness” program, in which the company has associated with community schools to train workers for possible jobs in the construction of data centers. Google is incorporating education on the program, he said.
“Ultimately, the Federal Government will observe and see what concept evidence they are being carried out, which of the green sprouts are taking roots,” Walker said. “If we can help fertilize that effort, that is our role.”
In the long term, Walker said that he expects a small fraction of existing jobs to be completely displaced by ai, citing several studies in charge of Google, Goldman Sachs and McKinsey. These studies suggest that ai will be incorporated in some way in most works.

As part of Google's efforts to prepare for this change, he hired economist David author as a visiting member to study ai impacts on the workforce. Author said in an interview that ai could be used to create more immersive training programs, similar to flight simulators.
“The history of adult recycling is not particularly glorious,” he said. “Adults do not want to return to classes. Classroom training will not be the solution to many recycling processes. ”
