“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” maintained its place as the number one movie in the United States for the second week in a row. The monster movie, released by Warner Bros. (NASDAQ:WBD) and Legendary Pictures, grossed approximately $31.7 million. to raise its domestic total to $135 million, according to data compiled by Comscore.
Actor-director Dev Patel's “Monkey Man,” a revenge thriller released by Universal Pictures (CMCSA), opened at No. 2 with an estimated $10.1 million from 3,029 theaters.
Sony's “Ghosbusters: Frozen Empire” came in third with $9 million in its third weekend for a total of $88.8 million domestically.
In fourth place was “The First Omen” from Disney's 20th Century Studios (DIS) with an estimated $8.4 million in gross sales from 3,375 theaters. The horror film is a prequel to “The Omen,” released in 1976 and starring Gregory Peck and Lee Remick.
Warner Bros.’ “Dune: Part Two” added $7.2 million in its sixth week to bring its domestic total to $264 million.
Estimated ticket sales cover Friday through Sunday at theaters in the United States and Canada. Final box office figures will be released on Monday.
