A GM representative told The Drive that the company's own investigation found that when it was installed, the White Auto kit could affect the critical functions of the vehicle and stop working after future software updates.
“After -sales services that introduce characteristics not originally designed, tested thoroughly and approved by GM can cause unwanted problems for customers. These problems could affect critical safety characteristics and can also cancel the parts of the vehicle guarantee.”
On its website, White Auto defended his now discontinued product, adding that the decision to suspend the product was “made only” by the company itself.
“This product underwent almost a year of rigorous tests in multiple vehicles and thousands of miles. As with all our offers, we would never launch a product that may have any detrimental effect on a vehicle or its occupants,” said White Auto.
“That said, this was not a decision that we made lightly. Due to a variety of factors, continue offering and supporting this product, ultimately, it was not viable in the long term.”
