This has been an expensive year.
Almost all consumer goods increase year after year. Cars are more expensive than ever, hotel prices per night have skyrocketed, and gasoline seems to cost more and more at the pump.
DON’T MISS: Cars are more expensive than ever, but Americans can’t get enough of this controversial SUV
However, the impact that many of us feel most tends to come from food prices. We all need a regular diet and there is not much we can do to reduce its consumption. It’s easier to bike to work to reduce gas use. This is not the case with your family dinner.
The consumer price index for August 2023 published by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics showed that several items are more expensive than just a year ago.
Food in general is up 4.3% as of this August compared to the month last year. Here’s a breakdown of how different halls and departments grew over the last 12 months:
- Cereals and bakery: 6% increase
- Meats, poultry, fish and eggs: no changes
- Rest of products (from dairy to beverages): increase of 0.3% to 4.8%
- Food away from home: increases 6.8%
In 2022, food prices increased 10.4% overallSo before you get excited about the fact that egg prices will remain stable this August, it is wise to remember last year’s increase.
The fact is that life has become more expensive in recent years and it can be difficult to find a good deal anywhere.

“As summer comes to a close, the values continue, with flavors and aromas you’ve been anticipating for months. Of course, we’re talking apple, maple, walnut, and plenty of pumpkin,” Trader Joe’s wrote. in their autumn brochuretitled “Every year we fall into the trap.”
Most of these items are released slowly during the fall season, so customers don’t buy them or get tired of pumpkins by mid-September. Holiday seasonal items are typically released around Thanksgiving and remain in stock until shortly after Christmas.
