When it comes to pinching the most pennies on your vacation, flight costs are a real make-or-break budget moment. If you can score a cheap flight, suddenly your trip becomes a whole lot more manageable. You’ve just freed up money for lodging, events, food, or just more shopping. Who doesn’t want that?
Unfortunately, some of the biggest tourist destinations in the U.S. (and across the world) have some of the highest ticket prices. Well, at least they did this summer. But as fall ushers in cooler temperatures, the tourist season looks to be cooling off, too.

Major airlines like Delta, American, Spirit, Southwest, and Frontier are releasing ticket prices for major U.S. and European cities that are, in some cases, more than 40% cheaper than usual. Hopper, a travel booking site, has released data showing can’t-miss-it pricing on domestic flights to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Orlando, and New York City all shaking out to cost less than $200.

For those looking to travel to Europe, tickets to big cities like Paris and London are appearing for less than $700. Even tickets to major cities in Japan, China, and South Korea are clocking in at almost 40% less than their usual cost.
In the summer, it seemed like everyone was traveling. Crowds of tourists endured gruelingly hot days and even some emergency evacuations due to record-breaking heat waves causing extreme weather and wildfires.
Over the summer, a cheap vacation meant checking out a smaller city in a nearby state. Wichita, Tulsa, Fresno, and Memphis all made great choices for a less expensive travel destination. But none of those places are New York City. If you’ve had one of these major spots on your travel list, this fall season will be the ideal time to check them out, at a discount.
