“Deadpool & Wolverine” was the No. 1 film at the North American box office for the second weekend in a row with $15.2 million, according to studio estimates compiled by Comscore. The Disney blockbuster (New York Stock Exchange: DIS) Marvel Studios predicts surpass $600 million domestically by the end of Labor Day weekend.
“Alien: Romulus” came in second with $9.3 million between Friday and Sunday. The sci-fi horror film has earned $88.8 million domestically.
Among theatrical releases, the Reagan biopic grossed $7.4 million over the three-day weekend. Including Monday, the film is estimated to gross $9.2 million in the U.S. and Canada.
The summer movie season was lackluster, with box office sales of $3.6 billion, down 10% from 2023, when blockbuster films like “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” were big draws.
The best-performing films this summer were “Deadpool & Wolverine,” “Despicable Me 4,” “Inside Out 2” and “Twisters.”
Below are estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Comscore. Final domestic figures will be released Monday.
