Pirates seem somewhat out of another moment, but they are still a problem in certain parts of the world.
It is incredibly rare for a cruise to face a pirate attack, but that does not mean that cruise lines do not monitor potentially dangerous situations. Cruises can change their route, commit to the local army as a deterrence or take other measures to make it clear that pirates should remain away.
That includes taking preventive measures, such as closing outdoor mallets at night in some very rare cases.

Cunard warns passengers about pirates

During the weekend, Queen Ana de Cudard was warned aboard Cudard that they remained inside during the night while the ship sailed through pirate prone waters between Darwin, Australia and even Manila in the Philippines.
The captain advised the guests to turn off the balcony lights, keep the curtains closed and avoid the external roofs during the night hours as a precaution.
The Sulu Sea Region is known for piracy with armed groups aimed at ships in the region.
Now, while cruises are rarely attacked, ships carry defense systems such as water cannons and sound -based deterrence elements. Queen Anne is in her first world cruise, which began in January.
The last cruises reported to be attacked by pirates, the spirit of Seabourn in 05 and MSc Melody in 09, both in front of the coast of Africa.
Carnival faces delay, Royal Caribbean presents a report
And a storm system is delaying the departure of the Norfolk Carnival Sun. Now, originally, it will go for a six night cruise yesterday, the ship will now leave this morning due to strong winds and heavy rains.
