Monday, September 2nd
- All day – He US stock markets will be closed in observance of the US Labor Day holiday.
- All day – The 11th HSBC China Annual Conference will be held in Shenzhen, China. Yum China (YUMC) is one of the key participating companies.
Tuesday, September 3rd
- Volatility Monitoring – Options trading volume is elevated in Terns Pharmaceuticals (TERN) and Canoo (GOEV). The most overbought stocks according to its 14-day Relative Strength Index include G1 Therapeutics (GTHX), Elite Pharmaceuticals (OTCQB:ELTP), and FreightCar America (RAIL). The most oversold stocks according to its 14-day Relative Strength Index include Bolt Projects (BSLK), Verrica Pharma (VRCA), and Red Robin (RRGB). Short interest has increased in Kura Sushi (KRUS) and Crown LNG (CGBS). VIZIO (VZIO) will be closely watched during the week as Walmart management is set to present at two conferences. VIZIO stock was trading about 2.6% below Walmart’s takeover offer at press time as the regulatory review process continues to unfold.
- Earnings Watch – Notable companies reporting earnings include Zscaler (ZS), Gitlab (GTLB) and PagerDuty (PD). Options trading implies a double-digit swing in the share price of Sportsman's Warehouse (SPWH) following the release of its earnings report.
- Data Observation – Chinese electric vehicle makers NIO (NIO), Li Auto (LI) and XPeng (XPEV) will update their monthly deliveries. Investors will also be keeping an eye on the Macau monthly gaming gross revenue report, the monthly Class 8 truck orders update, FBI firearms background check data and reports from discount brokers DART.
- All day – Intel (INTC) will host an event in Berlin to launch the next generation of Intel Core Ultra processors, codenamed Lunar Lake. During the event, which will be streamed live, the company will reveal details about the x86 energy efficiency, core performance, graphics performance, and ai processing power of the new processors.
- All day – Bloomberg will publish its OPEC production survey for August.
- All day – Philip Morris International (PM) will host a live webcast of a fireside chat session at the Barclays Global Consumer Staples Conference with its CEO, Jacek Olczak.
- All day – The three-day Commercial UAV Expo in Las Vegas will include an in-depth look at the state of the drone industry.
Wednesday, September 4th
- Earnings Watch – Notable companies required to file reports include Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), Dollar Tree (DLTR), Dick's Sporting Goods (DKS) and Casey's General Stores (CASY). Options trading involves double-digit swings in the share price of C3.ai (ai) and ChargePoint Holdings (CHPT) after their reports are released.
- All day – Citi’s Global technology, Media & Telecom Conference will feature Microsoft (MSFT), Super Micro Computer (SMCI), Dell Technologies (DELL), Intel (INTC), MongoDB (MDB), and Etsy (ETSY). Citi’s TMT conference has triggered stock price moves in the past based on management updates. Other notable conferences on the schedule include the UBS Global Materials Conference, the Morgan Stanley Unplugged Industrial CEO Conference, the 22nd Annual Morgan Stanley Global Healthcare Conference, and the 31st Annual Goldman Sachs Global Retail Conference. The Bloomberg Edge Summit will feature speakers from Google Cloud and Nvidia (NVDA) on how to turn the potential of ai into actionable strategies.
- All day – Notable investor events include SkyWest (SKYW) participating in the Deutsche Bank Airline Day and BioMarin Pharmaceutical (BMRN) Investor Day.
- All day – The Federal Reserve's Beige Book report will be released.
- 5:00 pm Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) will hold its earnings conference call. Traders will be watching for details on the planned acquisition of Juniper Networks (JNPR).
Thursday, September 5th
- Earnings Watch – Notable companies scheduled to release their reports include Broadcom (AVGO), DocuSign (DOCU), Samsara (IOT), Smith & Wesson (SWBI) and NIO (NIO). Options trading involves a large swing in the share price of Rent the Runway (RENT) and Planet Labs (PL) after their reports are released.
- All day – LightInTheBox (LITB) 1-for-6 reverse stock split goes into effect, as well as Draganfly (DPRO) 1-for-25 reverse stock splits and Allbirds (BIRD) 1-for-20 reverse stock splits.
- All day – Notable events include Jack Henry & Associates (JKHY) Investor Day, Talen Energy (TLN) Investor Day, Danaher (DHR) Investor and Analyst Meeting, and Shoals Technologies (SHLS) Investor Day.
- All day – The Gabelli Funds Aerospace & Defense Symposium will include participation from AAR Corp (AIR), Astronics (ATRO), Bridger Aerospace (BAER), Crane (CR), Curtiss Wright (CW), Redwire (RDW) and Textron (TXT).
- All day – Toyota Motor (TM) and BMW AG (OTCPK:BMWYY) are expected to make an announcement detailing an expansion of their fuel cell partnership.
- All day – Hyatt Hotels (H) and Marriott International (MAR) are scheduled to present at the Bank of America Gaming and Lodging Conference.
- All day – It's the FDA's action date on Travere Therapeutics' (TVTX) Filspari kidney disease treatment.
- Aftermarket – Costco (COST) is set to release its August sales report.
- 20:20 hours The NFL season kicks off as the Kansas City Chiefs host the Baltimore Ravens. Professional football provides a big boost to sports betting volume. DraftKings (DKNG) and Flutter Entertainment’s (FLUT) FanDuel look to maintain their market share lead, with Fanatics, ESPN Bet (PENN) and BetMGM (MGM) (OTCPK:GMVHF) becoming more competitive.
Friday, September 6th
- All day – Highlighted events include keynote addresses at the Roblox Developer Conference (RBLX) 2024 and Community Finance System (CBU) Investor Day.
- 8:30 am The US August employment report is due out. Economists expect 163,000 nonfarm jobs to be created in the month, up from 114,000 in July. The unemployment rate is expected to fall to 4.2% from 4.3%.
