Many things can go wrong in a cruise cabin bathroom.
The problem is that unless you have a suite, the bathroom in your stateroom is very small. It is also part of a plumbing ecosystem. So if you do something that causes a problem with your toilet, that could affect the entire boat.
That's why many cruise lines have signs, videos, and other warnings instructing passengers to only flush toilet paper provided by the cruise line down the toilet. It's not soft or even close to what most people would expect in a hotel bathroom, but cruise ship toilet paper is designed to be flushable down the toilet and not clog the ship's pipes.

When someone throws away baby wipes, feminine hygiene products, diapers, paper towels, banana peels, children's toys (all examples are shown in a Royal Caribbean video on the topic), it can wreak havoc not only on your cabin, but in hundreds of others.
Violating the “nothing but toilet paper in the bathroom” rule also forces another human being in another part of the system to figure out how to clean up their mess.
However, the size of the bathroom also poses other problems. It is not the easiest space, in many cases, to maneuver, and that causes special problems for some passengers.
Carnival brand ambassador John Heald recently responded to a sensitive question about his cruise line's cabin bathrooms and gave passengers an honest answer.

Carnival won't make this bathroom change
As you can see above, cruise ship cabin bathrooms typically have the sink on one side and the shower on the other. There isn't much space available and that led Joe Davenport to make a request to Heald.
“John Heald, thank you for taking the time to answer all these questions. My question is: is there a way to put a bidet on your toilets? I know it's a strange question and the reason I ask is not because I simply have it (because you can bring a portable one with you), but with the toilets so full in the bathroom, it's hard for a big guy like me to get to where I need to be to be clean and sanitary after using it due to a surgery that requires a full cleaning in that one. area,” he explained. “I'm sure if people were honest, I'm not the only one who would like to have these in regular toilets.”
Bidets are not widely used in the United States, but are common in parts of Europe where Carnival (CCL) navigate.

Heald was direct with his response.
“Thank you. No, unfortunately we won't be able to do that. We used to have bidets in some of the cabins, but they were never used and honestly, the plumbing required for them is very complicated in a “Thank you, I'm so sorry, but I understand, of course , and if there is anything else I can do for you, please let me know. Thank you again and I wish you a very Merry Christmas,” he responded.
