Chinese automaker BYD (SZ:) has officially launched its Song L battery-electric SUV. The launch of the vehicle came with a markedly reduced starting price compared to its pre-sale, highlighting the growing rivalry within the vehicle market China's new energy plant (NEV).
The official price of the Song L announced on Friday is RMB 30,200 ($4,250) less than the initial pre-sale price.
The Song L offers five versions, all as battery electric vehicles (BEVs), with prices of RMB 189,800 ($26,700), RMB 199,800, RMB 209,800, RMB 229,800 and RMB 249,800, respectively.
BYD initially unveiled the Song L concept at the Shanghai auto show in April and then showed off its production version in August. This model is part of BYD's Dynasty series within its broader range of models that includes the Dynasty and Ocean series.
Pre-sales for Song L began on October 31, with five versions priced at RMB 220,000, RMB 240,000, RMB 240,000, RMB 260,000, and RMB 280,000 respectively.
The official price of the Song L announced today is RMB 30,200 ($4,250) less than its initial pre-sale price.
According to analysts, from the start of pre-sales until now, the Song L has accumulated more than 28,000 pre-orders.
In November, BYD sold a total of 301,903 new energy vehicles (NEVs), which consisted of 301,378 passenger NEVs and 525 commercial NEVs, according to figures revealed earlier this month.
Among sales, the Song family models stood out as the best-selling BYD model, with 61,694 units sold in November, representing 20% of total sales.
