Many people hoping to travel in the coming months are looking for the best prices at popular vacation destinations.
In that spirit, American Airlines (AAL) seems to have found a major way to attract potential customers to an iconic location.

Widely known as the southernmost city in the continental U.S., Key West, Florida, has a rich history and reputation for being a relaxed, fun vacation spot in a warm climate.
As the winter months give way to spring, Florida in general is a highly sought-after state for travelers. American Airlines, with the help of Google (GOOG) – makes a compelling argument for visiting Key West specifically.
From March through May, there are some cheap fares from major U.S. cities to the city Ernest Hemingway called home in the 1930s.
How to Book the Best Airfares to Key West
The first thing potential passengers should do is search Google Flights to find the best fares. Next is to make sure you book directly with American Airlines.
Routes to Key West International Airport include departures from New York City, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and Washington, DC.
Writing for The Points Guy, Mike Avila found the following example of airfares:
You can fly from New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Key West International Airport (EYW) in April for just $194 round-trip, a nearly 50% discount from regular prices. This is American's basic economy tier, which gives you free carry-on luggage but doesn't let you choose a seat. The same reduced fare can be found for this same route in May. Note that the fares we discovered from New York involved layovers each way, including some of 45 minutes or less.
You can start your summer vacation early with a great rate we found in late May in New York City. You can fly with American from Kennedy Airport to Key West for just $196 round trip. This flight has a stop in Miami each way, but it's a huge discount for this route.
We found many discount flights from the country's capital. For example, American has round-trip tickets from Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) to the Keys for just $193, and it's a nonstop flight.
If you live in Houston, you can save a lot of money on a Memorial Day weekend getaway to the Keys. You can book a round-trip coach ticket on American for just $258, which is a huge discount off regular prices for this route.

Why Key West is a popular vacation destination
There are several reasons why travelers choose to visit the city.

The Key West Aquarium is a famous destination that is home to tropical fish, sharks, jellyfish and turtles.
The town is also a popular spot for snorkelling, diving and fishing. Many people visit Key West for its beaches and simply to enjoy its tropical atmosphere.
