The world of artificial intelligence is infiltrating many facets of our daily lives, but it will soon reach a point where people might actually need it.

In an announcement made on Tuesday, renowned car GPS navigation company TomTom (TMOAF) – Get a free report announced that it is developing a driving assistant powered by generative ai with the help of Microsoft (MSFT) – Get a free report.
Using Microsoft's Azure OpenAI system, the assistant can perform functions and tasks around the car that would normally require drivers to take their hands off the wheel and take their eyes off the road.
“Drivers can naturally converse with their vehicle and ask the ai-powered assistant to navigate to a given location, find specific stops along their route and vocally control on-board systems to, for example, raise the temperature, open windows or change the radio stations,” TomTom said in a statement. “Everything with a single interaction.”

Satellite navigation specialists point out that car manufacturers can integrate this new ai assistant into their in-house infotainment systems, which could be useful in adapting to an ever-changing technology curve.
“With this next generation of ai, we have a unique opportunity to accelerate innovation across the automotive sector,” said Microsoft corporate vice president of manufacturing and mobility Dominik Wee. “We are building on our long-standing collaboration with TomTom and bringing together Microsoft's cloud ai advancements with TomTom's automotive expertise to provide drivers and automakers with new ai-powered tools.
ai in cars is already a cutting edge that some manufacturers have already tried to address. In June 2023, Mercedes-Benz launched a beta test of voice assistant software that used ChatGPT as part of its MBUX multimedia system.
