Working on a cruise ship seems like an adventure and in many ways it is. But there are sacrifices: crew members work long hours and have little free time.
Their ships may take them to exotic locations, but they may not have free time in many ports to explore. And even when crew members have a few hours off, they often need to spend that time doing mundane tasks like doing laundry and cleaning their cabins.

Additionally, while the passenger cabins are small, the crew cabins are even smaller. They are also usually shared by two crew members who have to occupy bunks.
Outside of the military, there aren't many situations where adults sleep in bunk beds, but that's generally how crew cabins are arranged. Cruising With Essy shared a look inside a typical Carnival Cruise Line cabin on its YouTube page.

“Basically, this is where you will live when you finally decide to come and work on board. Most of the cabins are shared. So this is one of the shared cabins that I will guide you through,” he said. “So, as you can see, the cabins are like a normal room at home.”
He quickly pointed out the dream situation.
“Your bed will be a bunk bed, one bed on top and one bed on the bottom. But the mattresses are quite comfortable, you know, you can sleep comfortably on them. So far I haven't had any problems,” he added.
Each room, he added, has a large mirror. There is also a ladder that can be used to access the top bunk. Each room, she said, also has a TV and a refrigerator, as well as a small area that Essy described as “the space where you can put our lotions and perfumes.”
“There's a chair there. There's a closet and you can see there are life jackets on top of it just in case,” he said.

Each crew room has a private bathroom.
“So, here we are in the bathroom. It's a shower. You can take a hot or cold bath in there. This is where we keep our towels or detergents and our toiletries. So it's a combination: there's the bathroom and the toilets. Like this which, as you can see, this is where you will live when you finally decide to come work on board,” he added.
