Conway Gittens: This is Conway Gittens reporting from the New York Stock Exchange. This is what we are seeing today on TheStreet.
On Monday, the Dow closed above 44,000 for the first time in history and the S&P closed above 6,000 for the first time. The earnings season began on Tuesday. Home Depot beat quarterly sales and profit forecasts. Post-hurricane repairs and unusually warm temperatures were good for business.

In other news: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into 1.4 million Hondas and Acuras. The investigation covers model years 2016 through 2020 and involves Honda Pilot, Honda Odyssey, Honda Ridgeline, Acura MDX and Acura TLX.
The federal agency is investigating complaints about engines failing completely. The investigation focuses specifically on models with 3.5-liter V6 engines, where the connecting rod bearings do not function properly, affecting the engine's ability to keep the car running.
This investigation comes a year after Honda reportedly fixed the problem after issuing a recall that affected approximately 250,000 vehicles. But the new complaints NHTSA received came from car owners whose vehicles were not included in that original recall. One of these complaints concerned a non-fatal accident.
As a result, NHTSA is conducting an investigation to determine if Honda and Acura have a broader problem with this defective engine part. Honda says it will cooperate with the investigation.
That will be enough for your daily report. From the New York Stock Exchange, I'm Conway Gittens of TheStreet.
