Yu Suzuki, the brain behind the popular Sega The Virtua Fighter title is set to launch the game’s characters as NFTs, much to the delight of its fans. In a recent announcement, Sukuzi notes that he will be partnering with OASYXan NFT protocol, to create 1,000 Virtua Fighter digital collectibles that will be based on 11 Virtua Fighter characters from the game’s first three titles.
According to OASYX, these non-fungible tokens will serve as the basis for future Metaverse avatars in the game. Leading the way will be Suzuki, who was responsible for developing the popular fighting game of the 1990s.
Despite leaving his position as head of Sega in 2009, Suzuki has maintained a close working relationship with the company to which he devoted most of his time and creative genius. So, following increasing insistence from fans that Sega release NFTs for some of its popular titles, it seemed only right to let the former director take the lead.

Sega will own the NFT intellectual property of Virtua Fighter
Sega will own the intellectual property of the new digital creations, such as the game, however, Suzuki will be able to shape the NFT project in the best way it sees fit. The collaboration will bring back fond memories of the game he developed in 1993 using “innovative 3D computer graphics technology, which was cutting edge and industry leading at the time.”
Over the years, the game has come to be loved and supported by many. Now, these NFTs aim to strengthen that bond between fans and the game by creating unique and exciting experiences.
It’s a challenge that Suzuki is up to. In a statement, he notes, “Through my work overseeing the development of OASYX’s unique worldview, I am delighted to combine innovative technology in the form of blockchain-based NFTs, with three titles in the Virtua Fighter series to create new entertainment for a wide range of fans. of the games”.
