The purpose of the grant is to fund research on airborne diseases by establishing the US San Diego Meta Institute for Airborne Diseases in a Changing Climate.
UC San Diego Receives Record Research Crypto Donation
A local news publication in San Diego aware yesterday that the state had received a sizeable crypto donation from Vitalik Buterin. The donation is to help area residents stay safe from airborne pathogens following the outbreak of SARS-CoV-2, RSV and Influenza.
According to the researchers, the main cause of these outbreaks is the change in humidity and temperatures in the area. The mega grant will help researchers at the University of California San Diego dig deeper into how area residents can be rescued from such occurrences.
Do crypto donations still exist?
The donation is the largest crypto gift ever given to a US university and UC campus. It is from the Balvi Philanthropic Fund, an organization directed by Vitalik Buterin. It was wired as a USDC stablecoin and was exchanged to dollars through Engiven, a local crypto service provider in the area.
Buterin commented on the matter, saying he is pleased to support the creation of the new institute to help determine how airborne pathogens behave and affect people. This is not the first time Buterin has donated cryptocurrency. Besides, he’s not the only one he has.
One of the most popular donations was made in the Julian Assange extradition case.
The others were held in Ukraine’s war against Russia to help support Ukraine to resist Russia’s military offensive action. In addition, millions in cryptocurrencies have been given as relief in the misfortune of the earthquake in Turkey.
Now Buterin’s latest move confirms that the crypto community still believes in championing humanitarian causes. Keep watching crypto.news for this and other crypto-related news.
