With his current positioning, Damus is remarkably poised to take on the privacy communication model beyond big tech.
After its initial pushback, Damus, a decentralized social media platform messaging platform, has finally made its debut on the Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL) AppStore. Damus is a true expression of the power of decentralization and is housed in the Nostr Protocol. It is billed to provide the kind of end-to-end encryption found on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook.
Damus is younger than his existing competitors and gained popularity in December of last year. The popularity of the social media platform grew among Bitcoin advocates based on the backing Dorsey’s project received.
Dorsey appreciated what Damus is trying to accomplish in part because he’s a proponent of decentralized social media. While still in charge of Twitter, Dorsey introduced the Bluesky protocol, a blockchain-based network that was designed to be a major hub for hosting other social media platforms.
Although Twitter was one of the main financiers of the Bluesky project, Elon Musk’s acquisition of the company has cast doubt on the future of the project. Building on his efforts to expand the evolution of social media and micromessaging on the blockchain, Dorsey’s support donated the sum of 14 BTC worth approximately $300,000 at the time of the donation in December last year.
The Damus app has witnessed the contribution of about 40 developers to its growth. As one of its major historical achievements, the app has also integrated a Layer 2 Lighting Network widget to make Bitcoin payments and tips directly on the platform.
With his current positioning, Damus is remarkably poised to take on the privacy communication model beyond big tech.
Core Essence of Damus App Store Launch
The Apple App Store is a gateway through which millions of users around the world access different third-party applications. In order for developers to list their apps on the App Store, they must have met a set of defined requirements and scrutinies, some of which Damus was unable to meet in his first test.
With continued work and construction, Damus saw the 10,000+ trial users fill up quickly, showing just how appealing his proposition looks to members of the public. With the Nostr protocol, an acronym for Notes and Other Stuff Transmitted by Relays, the use of the Damus app will not be allowed.
According to The Block’s report, Nostr users “generate a key pair, with the public key acting as a username and the private key used to sign published content. Users then transmit messages to the protocol by connecting to decentralized relays that store the data via various web clients.
